As a busy mom, you’re juggling a thousand tasks every day. Between work, kids, and household chores, finding time for spring cleaning can feel overwhelming.

But fear not! With a few smart strategies, you can tackle spring cleaning efficiently and create a fresh, organized home without sacrificing your sanity.

  • 1. Organize Your Spring Cleaning Supplies
  • 2. Prioritize Your Spring Cleaning Routine
  • 3. Delegate Cleaning Tasks
  • 4. Go at Your Own Pace
  • 5. Celebrate Progress
  • 6. Teach Cleaning Skills
  • 7. Create a Decluttering Challenge
  • 8. Set Up a Donation Station
  • 9. Freshen Up Soft Furnishings
  • 10. Digital Decluttering
  • BONUS: My Favorite Spring Cleaning Products

1. Organize Your Spring Cleaning Supplies

Having all your cleaning supplies in one place is essential for quick and efficient cleaning. Here’s how to streamline your supplies:

Designate a Cleaning Shelf – Reserve a shelf in your laundry room or another convenient spot. Line up your cleaning products and group them by room (kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc.). This way, you can grab what you need without wasting time searching.

Create a Cleaning Caddy – If you prefer to carry your supplies with you, assemble a portable cleaning caddy. Include essentials like all-purpose cleaner, microfiber cloths, and gloves. Having everything at your fingertips reduces back-and-forth trips.

2. Prioritize Your Spring Cleaning Routine

Instead of attempting a full-house overhaul in a single weekend, focus on high-impact areas. Prioritize tasks that make life easier for your family:

  • Kitchen – Clean out cabinets, organize the pantry, and declutter countertops. An organized kitchen streamlines meal planning and cooking.
  • Bathrooms – Scrub tiles, declutter toiletries, and freshen up towels. A clean bathroom sets a positive tone for the whole family.
  • Living Areas – Dust shelves, vacuum upholstery, and wash cushion covers. Involve your family in decluttering and tidying shared spaces.

3. Delegate Cleaning Tasks

You don’t have to do it all alone! Get your family involved:

  • Assign Chores: Divide tasks among family members. Even young kids can help with simple tasks like picking up toys or wiping surfaces.-
  • Set a Family Cleaning Time: Dedicate a specific time each week for family cleaning. Make it a fun activity by playing music or turning it into a game.

4. Go at Your Own Pace

Remember, spring cleaning doesn’t have to happen all at once. Break it down into manageable chunks:

  • Weekly Maintenance: Instead of waiting for spring, incorporate cleaning into your weekly routine. Tackle a room or task each week, so it never accumulates.
  • Use Timers: Set a timer for 15-20 minutes and focus on one area. You’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish in short bursts. Make it fun by having a dance party inbetween!

5. Celebrate Progress

Acknowledge your achievements along the way:

  • Small Wins Matter: Celebrate decluttering a drawer or organizing a closet. Every step counts!
  • Reward Yourself: Treat yourself to a favorite snack or a relaxing break after completing a cleaning task.

6. Teach Cleaning Skills

Empower your kids with essential cleaning skills that will serve them well throughout life:

  • Laundry Basics: Show them how to sort laundry, load the washing machine, and fold clothes. Even young kids can help match socks!
  • Dusting Techniques: Teach them to use a microfiber cloth or feather duster to remove dust from surfaces.
  • Vacuuming: Demonstrate proper vacuuming techniques, including moving furniture and reaching corners.
  • Making Beds: Encourage them to make their beds daily. It’s a simple habit that contributes to a tidy room.

7. Create a Decluttering Challenge

  • 30-Day Decluttering Challenge: Assign one area or category (clothes, toys, kitchen gadgets) for each day of the month. Encourage your family to find items to donate, recycle, or discard. By the end of the challenge, you’ll have a clutter-free home.

8. Set Up a Donation Station

  • Place a designated box or bag in a central location. As your family members come across items they no longer need, encourage them to add them to the donation station. Regularly drop off the donations at a local charity or thrift store.

9. Freshen Up Soft Furnishings

  • Pillows and Cushions: Fluff pillows and cushions, and consider washing or airing them out. Replace worn-out pillow inserts if needed.
  • Curtains and Drapes: Remove curtains and drapes for a thorough wash or dry cleaning. If they’re machine washable, follow care instructions.
  • Area Rugs: Roll up area rugs and take them outside for a good shake. Vacuum both sides to remove dust and dirt.

10. Digital Decluttering

  • Clear Digital Clutter: Organize your digital life by deleting old files, organizing folders, and backing up important documents. Sort through emails and unsubscribe from newsletters you no longer read.
  • Phone and Tablet Cleanup: Delete unused apps, organize your home screen, and back up photos to the cloud. Consider setting app limits to reduce screen time.

BONUS: My Favorite Spring Cleaning Products

Spring cleaning is all about refreshing your home and creating a serene environment. Here are some of my favorite cleaning products that make the process efficient and enjoyable:

  • Microfiber Cloths: These versatile cloths are perfect for dusting, wiping surfaces, and cleaning glass. They trap dust effectively without leaving streaks.
  • All-Purpose Cleaner: A good all-purpose cleaner is a must-have. Look for eco-friendly options that work well on various surfaces, from countertops to bathroom tiles.
  • Baking Soda: This natural powerhouse can tackle tough stains, deodorize carpets, and even clean grout. Mix it with water to create a paste for scrubbing.
  • Vinegar: White vinegar is a fantastic multipurpose cleaner. Dilute it with water to clean windows, remove soap scum, and freshen up your dishwasher.
  • Essential Oils: Add a few drops of essential oils (such as lemon, lavender, or tea tree) to your cleaning solutions. They not only leave a pleasant scent but also have antibacterial properties.
  • Reusable Cleaning Pads: Swap disposable wipes for reusable cleaning pads. They’re eco-friendly and work well for mopping floors or wiping down surfaces.
  • Rubber Gloves: Protect your hands while cleaning. Opt for durable, reusable gloves that fit comfortably.

Remember, simplicity and patience is key. Stick to a few effective products, and your spring cleaning will be a breeze!

Kids learn by example, so be a positive role model. Celebrate their efforts, and soon you’ll have little cleaning helpers by your side! .🌼🌟🧼

Meet Jackie

Hello! I'm a wife, mom of 2 boys, coffee and wine lover who lives in the Nashville, TN area. After growing up in Chicago and moving to St. Louis for 6 years, we decided that Music City was our new home! I have a neurological illness, called CIDP, that has turned my life upside down, and I have created this blog to have a little spot on the internet to share with you my life as a busy mama who loves to shop, eat, drink & be merry! So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and enjoy your time with me here at One Top Knot Mama. Cheers, friend!

The only somewhat cute picture I have taken this s The only somewhat cute picture I have taken this summer where sweat isn't dripping from my face or I look like a troll under a bridge. It was a busy summer. I took time away from my blog & socials to fill my cup☕️.

Going forward, I hope to still be active here on IG, but know I need time away from scrolling. I am not a fashionista. I am a shorts & tee girl, messy bun, my hair is mostly dry shampoo by the time Friday rolls around. I don't wear fake nails or eyelashes. It's just not me.

The mental mind f*ck that is social media tried to get me to be someone I am not. I am finding that I enjoy writing on my blog more. Creating printables, worksheets, checklists, gift guides etc than posing in outfits I buy specifically for content that I don't even feel comfortable in.

There are better women than me on here that do a great job of this, and I get huge doses of imposter syndrome. I was spiralling. Never feeling good enough. And that just isn't healthy.

I also don't want to be tone deaf. I know our country is in crisis right now, thanks to our so-called "leaders." If you support our current administration, please just unfollow me now. I know families are struggling to put food on the table. I know parents are choosing between paying the bills or medicine. Kids are watching as their parents are dragged away by masked men. And the list goes on and on.

I just don't have it in me anymore. I'm exhausted. And my kids need me now more than ever as we are navigating 4th & 7th grades. So if you're still here, thank you. Please check out my blog, sign up for my emails because I am very more active there!

My goal is to continue to spread positivity and relatable content to other moms, resources to help you in everyday life, and to use my space as a creative outlet to fill my cup up.

I appreciate you all. Here is a recommendation if you're in the Nashville area, try @brunchcollectivetn for some amazing coffee, food and atmosphere!

Happy September, talk soon.
