Hey, y’all! Happy Wednesday. I wanted to dig a little deeper and show you guys I am more than what you see on the surface. Pictures and social media always show the highlight reels, so I want to give you a glimpse of who I really am. First of all, I am a wife to the most amazing husband, John, a mom of 2 sweet boys, chronic spoonie and Nashville transplant. I have a store on Etsy, The Lapis Boutique, where I design and create made to order tshirts, tote bags, baby/kids shirts & more. Blogging is something I have always wanted to do, and am eager to meet you all!
Here’s a little more about me…
I am really good at managing my time throughout each day. I put the things that HAVE to get done at the top of my list. And prioritize all my tasks and chores and family events. I am RARELY late, I’m the one that’s sitting in the doctor’s office 30 minutes before my appointment.
I also get anxiety when I’m rushed, so that’s why I like to be early. I was a retail store manager, and time management is just something that you have to learn and adapt to in order to run a successful store day after day. And I translated that into running a home day after day. There’s dishes, laundry, cleaning bathrooms, cooking, mealtimes, snack times, grocery shopping, paying bills, mopping the floor, vacuuming the carpet, more laundry, clean up any messes, more laundry, and the list goes on and on. I really think my experience being a store manager prepared me for home ownership and parenting. They don’t teach this stuff in school. (But they should. They should call it Adulting 101.)
To get to know me even more, here are 10 facts about me:
- I was born in Chicago (suburbs). When I was just a few months old, my family moved to Omaha, NE, where we lived until I was 6.5.Then we moved BACK to Chicago after that where I stayed until going off to college. When we go back to visit our family and friends, I HAVE to get Portillo’s. We even had their chocolate cake for our wedding cake. (13 cakes, actually).
- I graduated from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a BA in Speech Communications. I even graduated a semester early!
- I am a morning person. I NEED to have quiet time before everyone else wakes up to drink my coffee, catch up on my social media, read, shower, etc.
- I am 6’0 tall. I HATED being so tall as a kid, but now, I am super comfortable in my skin and actually find that it’s helpful reaching things in cabinets or changing lights.
- When I get mad about something, I do what I call, “Angry Clean.” Like clean harder and obsessively clean anything I see. I scrubbed my entire kitchen floor with a sponge and bucket of vinegar/water one day. Another day, I spackled every hole in the house and painted the trim. I get obsessive compulsive about stuff very easily. But at least I admit it!
- I was diagnosed with CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy) when I was 24 years old. I led a healthy, active childhood. I danced (tap, jazz & ballet) thru the end of high school. But all of a sudden, I couldn’t even open a water bottle. I was filling up with gas and I had to ask someone to open my gas cap. This was a life changing diagnosis for me, and my physical weakness has made me mentally stronger.
- My comfort food is Chinese. Give me crab rangoon and cashew chicken any day of the week.
- I hate mushrooms. It’s been a standing joke in my family for as long as I can remember.
- I met my husband when I was a freshman in college on Valentine’s Day. I knew the MOMENT I laid eyes on him that I had met the man I was going to marry.
- We have 2 dogs (a havanese -Daisy, and a golden retriever – Rosie) , and 2 cats (Calli & Wrigley) and live in Nashville, TN with our 2 boys who are my entire world.
That’s all for now, folks! Can you relate to one thing on my list? Leave a comment below if you do!
I have become super passionate about supporting the GBS/CIDP Foundation, as donating improves research and support for those suffering this awful illness. I even ask for donations to this organization for Christmas. If you feel so inclined, please click here to make a donation. I greatly appreciate it.
