For starters, I will tell you that I have moved A LOT in my life. Like, A LOT. When I was just 3 months old, we moved from Chicago to Omaha, NE. When I was 6, we moved back to the Chicago suburb of Lisle. When my parents got divorced, my mom needed to move us closer to her work so she wouldn’t be commuting as much and more time would be spent at home with us. That was when I was 9, in fourth grade. So we packed up again and moved to Park Ridge, IL where we stayed for the remainder of my school years until I went off to college. That was a promise my mom made my big sister and me, because we needed stability.

Life happens, and the day we moved me into college was the last time I pulled out of that driveway. My mom was going to remarry, and they wanted to start fresh in a new home. So, onto Woodridge, another suburb of Chicago. They stayed at that home for over 10 years. So that is 5 homes before I turned 18.

And then each year in college was 4 different moves. Don’t forget moving BACK home every summer break on top of that. I constantly just had stuff in boxes and bins. I was living out of a suitcase during breaks. It was stressful to say the least. By now, I knew what necessities I absolutely needed and which I could let go and either leave at my mom’s house or donate/throw away.

Moving out of my dorm room sophomore year, 2006

After I graduated college…guess what? I got a big girl job and a new apartment. After living there for 6 months, my boyfriend and I were transferred to St. Louis, MO (we were working for the same company, and they moved us as a “package deal”). So, we packed up a little U-Haul and filled our cars to the brim with all our stuff. We had rented a truck and loaded it ourselves with some friends with muscle. I think we were so broke we paid them in beer. We had NO extra money as it went to a deposit for the apartment. After living at THAT first St. Louis apartment for a year, we had also transferred jobs and needed to be closer to work. So we moved YET AGAIN. This time, it was to a townhouse. It was at this home that we got engaged, married, and had our first child. And I also got diagnosed with a chronic neuropathy illness. And we knew we needed family nearby. My mom had been travelling back and forth as much as she could from Chicago to help us out. I was no longer able to work. As a family, we decided that we all needed to move to be closer. So we decided on Nashville, TN!

Moving Day in our Nashville rental, 2013

This was such an exciting adventure for us! We had only visited here once, but it was all we needed to know this would be our home. And it was this time we knew we needed to hire movers. The logistics of the whole move seemed so complicated. But not having to lift a finger was heavenly. All I had to do was love on our 7 month old baby boy. My mom and step dad really helped us out so much. We couldn’t have done it without them. But by going through all these moves, the packing and planning were not that difficult. So our first home in Nashville was ours for 3 years. We welcomed another baby boy in this home. And since we were renting, we knew we were not making the most bang for our buck. So we drove all over Nashville to find the perfect place for our 1st home. And when it was time to move, we knew we weren’t going to do any heavy lifting. With 2 kids, a dog and a cat at this point, our family was growing, and so was all of our stuff!

Closing Day on our 1st home! (July, 2013)

We knew we couldn’t rely on our friends alone. They had all started having kids of their own and were busy living their lives. My parents are amazing, but they can’t do the heavy lifting like the beds, cribs, dressers, etc. It’s companies like these Nashville Commercial Movers that make the whole process so easy! They will come in and wrap and pack EVERYTHING! I do recommend going through things you just know you don’t need anymore. Like your nasty plastic college bathroom organizer, or your clothes you only wore to the club or college bars. You’re a mom now, ya know?

But as for the heavy stuff, the dressers, the beds, the cribs, the couches and other furniture, the kitchen plates, wine glasses, your grandma’s glass bowl that will stay in the family for generations to come, your wedding dress, your computer, printer, the big screen TV…they will do it all! And they offer competitive prices that are hard to beat. Moving Solutions are professionals who know what they’re doing. Since no move is the same, they create a plan that fits your budget and your needs. Whether it’s residential move just in Nashville or across the country, shipping a car, or moving your business to another location, Moving Solutions does it all.

If you are in the market to move in the future, don’t go it alone. You can’t pay your friends in pizza and beer forever. Your time is precious. Your money is precious. Use a professional company that will work with you, because each move is not one size fits all. Moving Solutions is a great option for you that is A+ by the BBB and 5 stars on Google. And I’d rather spend my time soaking up the sun with my beautiful family. It’s worth it, trust me.

Thumbs up for Moving Solutions!

Cheers,

Jackie

Five years ago today — January 6, 2021 — I was lay Five years ago today — January 6, 2021 — I was laying in bed with my two little boys, just 4 and 8 years old, and we watched something unfold on TV that I never imagined they’d see in their childhood.

I can still remember the way the room felt.
Heavy. Confusing. Quiet in a way that didn’t feel safe.

They kept asking me questions I didn’t know how to answer — questions no child should have to ask about their own country. And while I tried to be calm and reassuring, inside I felt scared… heartbroken… and honestly, a little shattered.

That day changed something in me as a mom.

It made me realize how fragile things can be.
How quickly “normal” can feel uncertain.
How much our kids absorb — even when we wish they wouldn’t.

Five years later, my boys are older — and so much more aware of the world around them. We’ve had countless conversations about kindness, respect, truth, and what it means to do the right thing when it’s hard.

And even though that day still stings when I think about it… I also carry something else alongside it:

Hope.

Hope in the helpers and the peacemakers.
Hope in raising boys who choose empathy over anger.
Hope in the quiet strength of ordinary people who believe in better.

I can’t erase what we saw.
But I can teach them how to respond to a world that isn’t always gentle — with compassion, courage, and integrity.

Here’s to raising kids who heal what’s broken instead of adding to the damage… who stand for good… and who know that the future is something we hold — and protect — together. 💛
