It seems like everyone and their brother is moving to Nashville, TN. It’s easy to see why, since it’s Music City, there is so much to do, the mild climate, no state income taxes, lots of land to build, low property taxes, low cost of living, steady job market, really good food and music scene, and good ol’ Southern charm.
We moved to Nashville more than 8 years ago, and haven’t looked back since. We absolutely love it here. Growing up in Chicago, I never thought I would leave as an adult, but opportunity knocked and now almost my whole family lives here. Tennessee is one of those places where you just feel at home immediately. People hold the door for you. They call a shopping cart “buggy,” you wave to people walking by, there’s an instant sense of community, and almost everyone you meet is NOT from here. We have neighbors from California, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Minnesota, and that’s all on our block. You will find that when you meet people in Nashville, the first question you ask is, “Where are you from?”
So that should tell you the amount of movement here in Nashville. We were all given the opportunity to move here. It’s such a fast paced seller’s market that people from across the country will buy a house without even ever seeing it. Could you do that? I don’t know if I could, honestly, before living here. But now that I do live here, I can tell you it’s one of the best places to live.
Here are some of our favorite places to explore:
Nashville Zoo at Grassmere – all year long, there are such cool animal exhibits. My favorite thing is being able to pet the kangaroos.
Cheekwood Botanical Gardens – colorful gardens and greenery, this destination is beautiful year round with events every month. https://cheekwood.org/explore/gardens/
Percy Warner Park – larger than 3,100 acres of forest and fields, just 9 miles from downtown, spend the day hiking, biking, having a picnic, play with Fido at the dog park, golf on 2 different courses, going horseback riding and more.
The Gulch – Nashville’s Premier Urban Neighborhood between Music Row and Downtown
Shelby Park – a large urban park located approximately three miles east of downtown Nashville along the Cumberland River. The park includes playgrounds, a dog park, baseball fields, two golf courses, and a community center.
Percy Priest Lake – Campgrounds, Marinas, Boat Ramps, Picnic Areas, Fishing, Lake Access Areas, Recreation Areas
Old Hickory Lake – With over 22,000 acres of water and 440 miles of shoreline, Old Hickory offers plenty of hiking, fishing, boating, skiing and other lake activities.
Hillsboro Village – Conveniently located near Vanderbilt and Belmont University, Hillsboro Village is a collection of shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
Main St. in Franklin – Stroll down Franklin’s award-winning historic Main Street to enjoy shopping, local restaurants, antiques, and more!
Gaylord Opryland – With its soaring atriums, nearly 20 restaurants and bars, shopping and entertainment, Gaylord Opryland isn’t just a place to stay, it is an experience…you really have to see it to believe it.
SHOPPING:
These are just SOME of the fun things in Nashville. It’s easy to see why people love it, right?
Did you know about 80 people move to Nashville every day? Crazy, right? Music City really has something that is hard to beat.
With all the people moving here, it’s no surprise the housing market is on fire right now. Along with the current economy, pandemic and opportunities because of the increased number of remote jobs, this naturally forced us all to re-evaluate our lives and figure out what we really want to do with our time and make the best of it.
In that regard, I am SO thankful we moved here when we did. House values have gone up considerably and still rising. With everyone re-evaluating their living situation, it’s super important to make the best decision for yourself, your family, your business, etc. And I want to help shed some light on one key component of starting over in a new town.
